  • Salary: Attractive Package

The Academic Centre for Healthy Ageing (ACHA) is a pioneering and exciting collaborative venture between Barts Health NHS Trust and Queen Mary University of London funded by a £6.6 million Grant from Barts Charity. ACHA will transform health and care services for older people in our local communities and further afield ensuring they remain as fit and active as possible. The Centre is uniquely co-located within Whipps Cross Hospital, undergoing redevelopment, and Queen Mary University of London’s Whitechapel Campus.

ACHA presents a tremendous opportunity to build a new world-class multidisciplinary academic workforce focused on optimal ageing embedded in the local health and care system with global relevance. This Centre will generate world-leading and impactful research and build a care system and infrastructure to facilitate rapid translation of forefront research findings into clinical practice, transforming evidence-based service redesign, workforce education, training and growth.

To support our ambitious plans, we are looking to appoint three world-leading researchers to Professors as founding faculty for ACHA. You will be employed by Queen Mary and hold honorary contracts at either Barts Health or other local partner organisations. You will articulate a clear strategy and means for delivering a transformational change in applied research knowledge in your specialty field and provide leadership to one of the three main themes:

  • Prevention and mitigation for people living with frailty, long term conditions and multimorbidity.
  • Rehabilitation and the recovery of older people following life-changing trauma and illness.
  • Cognition and older people’s mental health.

We are looking for outstanding candidates with a strong track record of internationally leading research excellence, including high impact publications in top journals and prior major grant funding success in a clinical field related to the health or social care of older people. You will have proven ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of clinical academics, health professionals and other key NHS partners and our wider community as well as persuade and influence at all levels. You will have a track record of setting strategic vision, developing innovative approaches, and leading major collaborative projects that deliver tangible impact.

The posts come with a generous package that includes funding to facilitate the growth of your research group, and the forging of collaborations, enabling you to seamlessly establish yourself at ACHA.

Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.
