Synergy – Shared Service Programme Director

If you are motivated by organisational transformation, this is an exceptional role, leading the next stage in the transformation of Shared Services in Finance and HR across 4 Government Departments, who employ half the Civil Service, over 200,000 people.

The “Synergy Programme” comprises the Ministry of Justice, Department for Work and Pensions, Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Home Office – organisations that have real impact and accountability for our citizens.

The four Departments, each a separate employer, have already worked as a cluster for second-generation shared services. This challenging programme is making a shift in the quality of employee experience and business insight, in facilitating greater interoperability across Government, and enabled by the move to the cloud and evergreen Software as a Service.

The Synergy Programme has been designed to achieve this and drive forward the Government Shared Services strategy. The programme includes culture change, building a common operating model, business processing services (BPO) and commercial strategy.

As a key element of this major programme, we are now seeking to appoint a Programme Director to the Synergy Programme who will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of this ambitious programme.  Working closely with senior stakeholders across all four departments the Programme Director will lead the activity to design, procure and implement cloud-based end-to-end ERP and wrap around services.  Leading a team of 130 they will also oversee the programme’s progress and ensure robust change controls are in place throughout its lifetime.    Likewise, as a key member of DWP’s director community, the Programme Director will play an important role in embedding cultural change and contribute to overall corporate strategy.

This is a highly challenging, rare and rewarding opportunity for a senior transformation professional with a proven track record of building shared services centres combining the professions of finance and / or human resources.  The successful candidate will have a proven ability to deliver an agenda that combines intellectual challenge and a high degree of complexity.  You will bring a successful track record of transformation across organisations of significant scale and complexity in either the private or public sectors, driving both hard and soft change initiatives and implementing new operating models.  Likewise, you will bring a demonstrable track record of building high-performing teams and creating a culture of inclusivity.  You understand that real change can only succeed through communication, collaboration and a drive to continually improve.

This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home.
