At Teesside University, we are ambitious in our goals, vision, and aspirations. We challenge expectations and push the boundaries of what is possible. From transforming our campus through a £300m investment and capital development programme, to creating outstanding, innovative academic programmes. Based at the Middlesbrough Campus, our facilities and environment boast a transformation of the Campus Heart through a £300m investment and capital development programme, to support the creation of outstanding, innovative academic programmes, where our work is relevant, and purpose driven. We also benefit from the National Horizons Centre at our Darlington campus, which hosts our international bioscience research offer.

A diverse and energetic institution, we represent a broad range of subject disciplines with the School of Health & Life Sciences across the Allied Health Professions, Nursing & Midwifery and Sciences. We have continued growth with ongoing developments in both Pharmacy and Medical Professions. Our onsite optometry suite boasts high quality, professional standard equipment and facilities and forms part of our wider clinic offer where students develop their practice whilst serving our local population.

We are now seeking to appoint an exceptional individual as Professor of Clinical Optometry within our Department of Allied Health Professions. You will play a critical role in establishing, leading, and growing our new MOptom programme, which is evolving from our successful BSc in Optometry course. You will secure funding for multidisciplinary projects that align to the strategic priorities of the University and the wider needs of the Tees Valley and collaborate across the department and school to lead strategic projects and priorities. Co production is central to all our developments and as such we work in partnership with organisations across the NHS, Private and voluntary sector, industry and sport. You will be pivotal in engaging with established collaborations and developing new partnerships.

This role is critical to our success, and we are looking for a dynamic senior academic with an established track record of excellence in terms of outcomes, outputs and impact from their work, and proven ability to provide academic leadership in discipline, both within the university and beyond. You will have experience in developing and delivering new teaching and research activities and have a wide-reaching reputation in your discipline. You will have a record in research and scholarship, reflected in publications and evidence of research funding application. We are also interested in candidates with a track record of academic excellence in learning and teaching, or enterprise and professional practice. You will be an inspiring and collaborative leader with strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to cross interdisciplinary boundaries and act as an ambassador for the university representing it’s global academic standing and reputation.

The Tees Valley is an enjoyable place to live – in the heart of the North of England’s coastline and countryside, with easy access to Durham, Newcastle and York.
