
Head of School of Engineering
Applications are invited from academics of international standing for the position of Head of School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh.

The School of Engineering can trace its beginnings at the University of Edinburgh to 1868, when Queen Victoria appointed the first Regius Chair of Engineering at Edinburgh – the oldest such position in the UK. The present School of Engineering was formed in 2002 and now offers undergraduate degree programmes across all disciplines, taught Masters degrees in specialist areas and an enviable breadth and depth of research addressing global challenges. It is one of the largest Schools at the University with 430 staff, 550 postgraduate research students, and 2,100 undergraduate and postgraduate taught students. In 2022 – 2023, the School generated £25 million in research awards.
Candidates will be expected to demonstrate an international research reputation, a commitment to teaching excellence and significant management experience. You will be of exceptional calibre with proven ability to provide both academic and executive leadership and to act as the external advocate of the School to a range of stakeholders, nationally and internationally.
This is a critically important role, and we seek an inspirational leader with the strategic vision and leadership skills to ensure that the School continues to build on its existing successes and is strongly positioned for the future. The successful candidate will be appointed to an open-ended Professorial post within the School and a five year term as Head of School.
