SCHOOL OF HEALTH & LIFE SCIENCES

Head of Pharmacy Practice

SALARY up to Prof level dependent upon experience

Full time, permanent (part-time available)

Are you passionate about the development of the pharmacy profession, and excited by the current changes happening in pharmacy education? Do you have valuable experience and innovative approaches to the delivery of cutting-edge science to underpin the essential skills of the future pharmacy workforce?

If the idea of supporting the next generation of pharmacy students to meet the new educational standards, and helping develop the resilience of prescribing within the pharmacy arena is an ambition you have thought about, then reach out to the Pharmacy team at Teesside University for an informal discussion about joining our team.

Working toward the accreditation of an MPharm programme with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), the current team is looking to expand. Based at the Middlesbrough Campus, our facilities and environment boast a transformation of the Campus Heart through a £300m investment and capital development programme, to support the creation of outstanding, innovative academic programmes, where our work is relevant, and purpose driven.

We are seeking an outstanding individual with experience at a senior level to provide academic leadership within our growing team and the wider Teesside University community. You will work as part of the Pharmacy Senior Leadership Team with the Director of Pharmacy and the Head of Pharmaceutics in the support the next steps in the accreditation process – bringing your experience in setting curriculum direction, assessment strategy and the embedding of an ambitious Learning In Placement model, which has already well-established commitment from placement providers in the region.

You will join the School of Health & Life Sciences, where our team of expert researchers and educators to drive our focus on promoting research-led practice to shape the future of healthcare and innovative teaching to develop the prescribing pharmacists of the future.  We offer an exciting opportunity to contribute to the strategic planning and growth of research both within the Pharmacy Practice team and across our wider research environment, as well as opportunities to lead aspects of the development and delivery of high-quality teaching and student experience.

Applications are welcomed from all areas of the pharmacy workforce, as the team at SHLS recognise the important value of a wide range of practice experience in the development of our brand-new curriculum, aspiring to develop graduates who fit the needs of the future employer requirements, and you will be supported in your transition into the academic workforce if you have had limited previous experience.

You should be a GPhC registered pharmacist, hold both a first degree and Masters in a relevant discipline to the subjects delivered within a pharmacy curriculum and practical work experience within a pharmacy sector would add value to your application. A PhD in a relevant subject is considered a highly desirable criterion, although applicants are encouraged to discuss this informally with the Director of Pharmacy, in order for appropriate consideration of your leadership experience to be made. You will use your specific expertise to contribute to teaching, knowledge exchange, enterprise, and business engagement. Applicants must hold (or be willing to achieve) a relevant Teaching Qualification normally within two years of employment i.e PGCHE/Higher Education Academy (Associate Fellow/Senior Fellow) accreditation.

Please be advised that due to the minimum salary thresholds imposed by the UKVI, this post will qualify for University sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route.

Applicants should provide a CV (maximum 4 pages) and a covering letter that highlights how their current and previous experience maps to our essential and desirable criteria.
