Salary: £76,000
The Department for Transport (DfT) supports the transport network that helps UK citizens, businesses, goods and services travelling around the country. The Department sponsors a broad range of Public Bodies that deliver vital public services, invest taxpayers’ money and manage significant risks. These include executive agencies such as DVLA and DVSA, delivery companies such as Network Rail and National Highways, regulators such as Civil Aviation Authority and Office of Road and Rail, as well as advisory bodies like the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee.
As Deputy Director Public Appointments & Public Bodies Centre of Excellence, you will provide inspiring, strategic leadership to two teams which are vital to ensuring the continued success of the Department’s Public Bodies. The Public Appointments Team leads the Ministerial appointments of Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) and Chairs to the boards of all the Department’s Public Bodies and Agencies, whilst the Public Bodies Centre of Excellence facilitates an in-house corporate sponsorship and governance consultancy, and development offer to enhance the collective capability of DfT- wide sponsor and shareholder teams.
To be successful, you will need outstanding leadership skills, with a strong customer service ethos, and a strategic approach to decision making. You will be a natural relationship builder, with the proven ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders, whilst collaborating successfully within a complex organisation, or across organisational boundaries on sensitive or complex issues.
