Chair of CPS Board/Lead Non-Executive Board Member (LNEBM) – Ref 17655
Salary: £25,000, plus reasonable expenses for approximately 36 days a year
Location: London
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is the Government Department responsible for prosecuting criminal cases investigated by the police in England and Wales. As the principal prosecuting authority in England and Wales, the CPS sits at the heart of the Criminal Justice System, working in close partnership with the police, courts, the Judiciary and other partners to deliver justice.
Led by the Director of Public Prosecutions, the CPS is a large, complex, geographically dispersed organisation, with a clear sense of purpose, and a broad mandate of great national importance. This includes advising the police on cases for possible prosecution, reviewing cases submitted by the police, determining any charge in all but minor cases, preparing cases for court, and presenting cases at court.
As Lead Non-Executive Board Member, you have the chance to make a positive difference to society, working with influence to ensure that the CPS is equipped to provide a professional, efficient and high-quality service. To be successful, you will need substantial experience of serving as a Non-Executive Director and/or Chair of a substantial, high-profile organisation, with a deep understanding of governance and accountability in the public sector, and the proven ability to operate strategically. You will be an effective communicator, capable of building proactive and collaborative relationships with people across and outside of the organisation.
