Play your part in supporting a healthy democracy

IPSA was created in 2009 as the world’s first independent regulator of MPs’ expenses and business costs, and now also sets MPs’ pay and pensions. It plays a vital role in the UK’s Parliamentary democracy, ensuring that the rules for MPs’ remuneration are fair, workable and transparent, and command public trust.

IPSA’s focus has now shifted to providing a simpler and more supportive service to MPs and their staff. We are seeking a Chair who can lead IPSA through a programme of transformation requiring cultural change, technological improvement and process redesign. The new Chair will be an experienced senior leader, credible at board level, with ability to set strategic direction and ensure delivery and to lead a customer-focused organisation through organisational change.

The Chair will need to demonstrate political awareness and an understanding of the role of the regulator. They will bring an ability to work collaboratively and have a track record of managing a diverse range of stakeholders with tact and discretion. They will be able to grasp complex issues and explain decisions to the public.

The Chair will be able to maintain personal integrity, independence and resilience in the face of competing demands and media scrutiny, and to command the confidence of the public and of MPs of all parties.

This is a unique moment in IPSA’s life and the Chair will have an opportunity to deliver lasting change and contribute personally to the future of our democracy.
