The Royal Navy currently operates a fleet of Astute and Vanguard Class nuclear powered submarines, the latter of which are responsible for maintaining the UK’s continuous at sea nuclear deterrent. These submarines are amongst the most complex machines that the UK makes and operates, and the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is responsible for their design, build, through-life support and decommissioning; including the build and development of the new Dreadnaught Class the next generation of submarine maintaining the UK’s continuous at sea nuclear deterrent.
The SDA’s activity is central to the UK Government’s £242 billion equipment plan for the British Armed Forces, managing one of the largest UK investment programmes in existence, of critical strategic importance. This means we need people with exceptional skills to successfully deliver the programme.
We are looking to appoint to a Technical Director to strategically align, maintain and lead the equipment, engineering capability, and technical, safety, and environmental assurance of the SDA’s outcomes. The TD will exploit the synergies between equipment teams and with engineering functional professions responsibilities to provide the highest quality technical and material support to the SDA. This is achieved by providing technical, safety and environmental leadership across the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE), including with key industrial partners to promote coherence, consistency, combined effectiveness, collaboration and excellence in support of the SDA’s and DNEs mission, future strategy, and UK’s National Deterrent, which helps sustains CASD.
You will be a successful, Technical & Engineering leader, with the technical & capital portfolio credibility and proven ability to influence at the highest levels. You will have a demonstrable track record of inspiring a large engineering function. You will also bring the ability to drive the changes needed to meet the needs of our delivery teams and lead on initiatives to attract, develop and retain a diverse workforce. Alongside this, you will possess the people skills to build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with the Royal Navy, the MOD, regulators and with industry to ensure success.
This is a high profile and rewarding challenge for the individual that wants to make a positive difference to national security.
