🚆 Head of Engineering – Chiltern Railways

Lead the Future of Rail Engineering

Veredus is exclusively retained by Chiltern Railways to recruit a bold, brilliant leader to help shape the next era of performance, safety, and innovation.

If you’re an experienced Rolling Stock Engineer with strong leadership credentials — someone who thrives on challenge, collaboration, and real impact — this is your moment to lead change across one of the UK’s most trusted Train Operating Companies.

⚙️ The Role

As Head of Engineering, you’ll play a pivotal role in the ongoing modernisation of Chiltern’s fleet and maintenance operations.

You’ll combine strategic vision with hands-on leadership, driving continuous improvement and engineering excellence across the business.

Key responsibilities:

✅ Lead and inspire multidisciplinary teams across safety, training, technical, performance, and assurance.

✅ Partner seamlessly with non-engineering colleagues to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

✅ Drive innovation, process improvement, and people development.

✅ Provide strategic direction for fleet performance, engineering compliance, and asset optimisation.

👤 The Person

We’re looking for a forward-thinking engineer with strong communication and influencing skills.

You’ll be articulate, analytical, and confident in managing technical delivery while shaping strategy.

Essential skills & experience:

Degree-qualified (ideally Chartered Engineer status).

Proven experience leading engineering functions in rail or related industries.

A strong understanding of safety management, technical assurance, and rolling stock performance.

A collaborative, collegiate leadership style with the ability to engage peers at every level.

🌟 Why Join Chiltern Railways?

Chiltern Railways is a people-focused operator renowned for innovation, reliability, and customer service excellence.

This is a rare opportunity to join a forward-thinking TOC that’s:

🚆 Modernising its fleet and embracing cutting-edge technology.

🚆 Investing in people, skills, and long-term performance.

🚆 Redefining what sustainable, customer-centric rail looks like.

🚆 Mobilising for East-West Rail connectivity between Oxford and Cambridge.

If you’re excited by challenge, transformation, and impact, there’s never been a better time to join Chiltern Railways.
