⚙️ The Role
As Head of Engineering, you’ll play a pivotal role in the ongoing modernisation of Chiltern’s fleet and maintenance operations.
You’ll combine strategic vision with hands-on leadership, driving continuous improvement and engineering excellence across the business.
Key responsibilities:
✅ Lead and inspire multidisciplinary teams across safety, training, technical, performance, and assurance.
✅ Partner seamlessly with non-engineering colleagues to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
✅ Drive innovation, process improvement, and people development.
✅ Provide strategic direction for fleet performance, engineering compliance, and asset optimisation.
👤 The Person
We’re looking for a forward-thinking engineer with strong communication and influencing skills.
You’ll be articulate, analytical, and confident in managing technical delivery while shaping strategy.
Essential skills & experience:
• Degree-qualified (ideally Chartered Engineer status).
• Proven experience leading engineering functions in rail or related industries.
• A strong understanding of safety management, technical assurance, and rolling stock performance.
• A collaborative, collegiate leadership style with the ability to engage peers at every level.
