University College London
Executive Dean, Faculty of Arts and Humanities
Location: London
Salary: An attractive remuneration package
UCL is a world-leading, global university with a community of more than 51,000 students from 150 countries and over 18,000 staff. We pursue academic excellence, break boundaries, and make a positive impact on real-world problems. We are consistently ranked among the top ten universities in the world and are one of only a handful of institutions rated as having the strongest academic reputation. We are ambitious for change and are committed to taking ever bolder and more impactful interventions towards becoming a more diverse, equitable and inclusive university.
The Faculty of Arts and Humanities is one of UCL’s most diverse and intellectually vibrant academic communities, bringing together an exceptional breadth of disciplines across the arts, humanities and social sciences. Its scholarship spans cultures, histories, languages, ideas, creativity and human experience, with a strong commitment to excellence in research, education, innovation and public engagement.
As UCL looks ahead to the development of its next academic strategy, we are seeking an exceptional academic leader to join the University Leadership Team as Executive Dean, Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
This is a rare opportunity to lead and shape the future of the Faculty at an important point in its development. The Executive Dean will be the Faculty’s principal academic leader, figurehead and champion, setting a compelling vision and creating the environment in which staff and students can achieve their best.
There is significant opportunity to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration within the Faculty and across UCL, develop new approaches to research and education, enhance the student experience, and further increase the Faculty’s national and international profile and impact. The Executive Dean will also play an important role in championing the distinctive value of arts and humanities within a modern, research-intensive global university and demonstrating their contribution to addressing the major challenges facing society.
Alongside leadership of the Faculty, the Executive Dean will contribute to UCL’s wider strategic direction as a member of the University Leadership Team. They will help shape UCL’s next academic strategy and support the University’s ambitions to strengthen its global reputation, partnerships, philanthropy and engagement with society.
We are seeking a visionary and strategic academic leader with a strong record of achievement in complex academic environments. You will bring the ability to inspire an outstanding academic community, foster collaboration across disciplinary and organisational boundaries, and champion excellence across research, education, innovation and impact. You will combine intellectual ambition with sound judgement and the ability to deliver, and will be an influential advocate for the arts and humanities within UCL and externally.
UCL offers a distinctive environment in which to lead, innovate and make a significant institutional impact. We welcome applications from candidates who will bring fresh perspectives, inclusive leadership and a strong commitment to advancing the aspirations of both the Faculty and UCL.
