Our Health Practice develops leadership capacity and capability in the NHS and across the wider health sector, through executive search and interim management specialising in recruiting talented Executives and Non-Executive Directors.

The current and future constraints on public spending combined with lifestyle factors, the UK’s aging population and the increasing cost of healthcare mean the NHS is facing one of the most difficult moments in its history. We understand the pressures faced by healthcare organisations, because we see ourselves as part of the sector – not remote from it – and our team brings strength in depth. Two of our Directors are also Non-Executive Directors of NHS organisations, and others bring commercial-sector experience.
Our UK Lead for the Health Practice was part of the national programme Commissioning a patient-led NHS, and through that process was involved in assessing Executives across the country.
We understand the policy drivers too in the post election environment in terms of improving operational efficiency, reducing costs and redesigning services, in addition to the agenda around improving health and wellbeing. The step change required to improve efficiency and redesign services across the board means we are seeing roles requiring increasing levels of entrepreneurial and business management skills. We also understand the need to develop leadership within the sector and encourage leaders from outside of the NHS in order to face the challenges ahead. Reputation
We are justifiably proud of our reputation, both in the healthcare sector and as leaders in many of our markets. We work seamlessly with our specialist colleagues in government, education and the not-for-profit sector, and can bring a bespoke solution where roles are required to work across sectors. For example, we were commissioned jointly by the Department of Health and the Department for Children, Schools and Families for the search and selection of a Communication Champion, with a brief to work nationally to develop services for children with speech and language difficulties. This ground-breaking role was required to balance a complex set of stakeholders across Central and Local Government, the third sector and the media. We facilitated the involvement of children with communication difficulties as part of our comprehensive assessment process.
Whether appointing to Director, Chief Executive or Non-Executive posts – and regardless of challenge or timescale – we specialise in providing excellent shortlists of candidates, as well as supporting foundation trust governors, service users, carers and other stakeholders through the process. For example, for Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust we were commissioned to conduct the search and selection for a Non-Executive Director. Our shortlist was so strong that the client changed their constitution to enable them to recruit a second candidate from the same search. Similarly with Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, we provided data that supported their request to Monitor to change their constitution prior to recruiting their new Chair and three Non-Executive Directors.
