Job description Date posted: 01/02/2019

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is a new body which works in partnership with universities, research organisations, businesses, charities, and government to create the best possible environment for research and innovation to flourish. We aim to maximise the contribution of each of our component parts, working individually and collectively. We work with our many partners to benefit everyone through knowledge, talent and ideas.

Operating across the whole of the UK with a combined budget of more than £6 billion, UK Research and Innovation brings together the seven Research Councils, Innovate UK and Research England.

We are an independent organisation with a strong voice for research and innovation, both to government and internationally, we are supported and challenged by an independent chair and board. We are principally funded through the Science Budget by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

Our mission is to be a trusted partner and to ensure research and innovation continues to flourish in the UK. We will support and help connect the best researchers and innovators with customers, users and the public. We will invest every pound of taxpayers’ money wisely in a way that maximises impact for citizens, in the UK and across the world.

To fulfil this transformational role and deliver benefits to the UK society and economy, we need to become more than the sum of our parts, catalysing changes within and across the Councils.

We are now seeking to appoint a Transformation Director, reporting to the CEO, to drive and support UKRI’s entire transformation programme, including strategic transformation, operational transformation, and systems transformation. This broad remit will also include embedding cultural change across UKRI, enhancing capacity and capability to promote and sustain new cross-cutting funding initiatives alongside established programmes of work in councils. Equally, the Transformation Director will focus on delivering effectiveness and efficiency by leading significant systems projects, while modernizing, streamlining, and standardizing processes.

This is a challenging yet extremely rewarding opportunity for a senior transformation professional who is both experienced and credible at Board level. The successful candidate will have proven ability to handle an agenda that combines intellectual challenge, influence and complex stakeholder relationship management. You bring a successful track record of transformation across organisations, driving both hard and soft change initiatives and implementing new operating models.

If you feel motivated to lead this demanding transformation programme, supporting UKRI’s ambition to benefit the UK economy and society by rethinking the UK research and innovation funding provision, then please see the full role description and application pack under Supporting Documentation.
