Lay Members of Council

External Member of Audit & Risk Committee

Non-remunerated. Reasonable expenses payable in line with the requirements of the role

Appointments to commence on 1st August 2022

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the future direction of a leading University in a rapidly changing global environment.

Cardiff University is an ambitious and innovative university with a bold and strategic vision located in a beautiful and thriving capital city.

We are seeking to appoint to two Lay Members to the University Council. Lay Members make a vital contribution to Cardiff University, working with the other members of Council and the Executive to set the mission, strategic direction, overall aims and values of the institution. Our lay members have a wide range of backgrounds, as befits an organisation delivering teaching and services to over 33,510 students and supporting the academic and professional development of over 8000 staff. As a Lay Member your role is to ensure the University delivers its strategic plan in line with legislative and regulatory requirements, lives up to its stated values, and follows its policies and procedures with effective systems of control and risk management in place.

Cardiff University is committed to creating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive culture, and we know governing bodies in the HE sector are not as diverse as the students and communities we serve. At Cardiff we are actively seeking to address this, and we encourage applications from candidates with a high level of personal skills and experience in any field of public service or private enterprise. At this time, we are particularly interested in candidates with experience in Digital infrastructure & IT; Estates & Capital Project Management/Regeneration; and Human Resources.

We are keen to achieve a balance on the University Council between those who live in Wales and those further afield, and welcome applications from all.

We are also seeking a new external member for our Audit and Risk Management Committee. You will be responsible for the oversight of the University's financial and other internal control systems, strategic risks, and risk management policy. You will advise Council on whether the University's systems and procedures promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness, safeguard the University's assets, and prevent and detect fraud or other irregularities. You will have an accounting qualification and relevant experience in audits and risk management as well as proven ability to provide critical scrutiny of strategy, financial and other plans, risk, assurance, and performance oversight.

An understanding of the issues facing higher education and an interest in Wales and the Welsh context within which decisions are being made is essential in these posts.

Aelodau Lleyg o‘r Cyngor

Aelod Allanol o'r Pwyllgor Archwilio a Risgiau

Heb dâl. Treuliau rhesymol yn daladwy yn unol â gofynion y rôl

Penodiadau i ddechrau ar 1 Awst 2022

Mae hwn yn gyfle cyffrous i gyfrannu at gyfeiriad Prifysgol flaenllaw yn y dyfodol mewn amgylchedd byd-eang sy'n newid yn gyflym.

Mae Prifysgol Caerdydd yn brifysgol uchelgeisiol ac arloesol a chanddi weledigaeth feiddgar a strategol, ac mae mewn prifddinas hardd a ffyniannus.

Rydym yn awr am benodi dau Aelod Lleyg i Gyngor y Brifysgol. Mae Aelodau Lleyg yn gwneud cyfraniad hanfodol i Brifysgol Caerdydd, gan weithio gydag aelodau eraill y Cyngor a'r Bwrdd Gweithredol i bennu cenhadaeth, cyfeiriad strategol, nodau cyffredinol a gwerthoedd y sefydliad. Mae cefndiroedd ein haelodau lleyg yn amrywio’n fawr, fel sy'n addas i sefydliad sy'n cynnig gwasanaethau addysgu a gwasanaethau i dros 33,510 o fyfyrwyr ac yn cefnogi datblygiad academaidd a phroffesiynol dros 8000 o staff. Fel Aelod Lleyg, eich rôl chi yw gwneud yn siŵr bod y Brifysgol yn cyflawni ei chynllun strategol yn unol â gofynion deddfwriaethol a rheoliadol, yn bodloni ei gwerthoedd datganedig, ac yn dilyn ei pholisïau a'i gweithdrefnau gyda systemau rheoli a rheoli risg effeithiol ar waith.

Mae Prifysgol Caerdydd wedi ymrwymo i greu a chynnal diwylliant amrywiol a chynhwysol, a gwyddom nad yw cyrff llywodraethu yn y sector AU mor amrywiol â'r myfyrwyr a'r cymunedau rydym yn eu gwasanaethu. Yng Nghaerdydd rydym wrthi'n ceisio mynd i'r afael â hyn ac rydym am annog ceisiadau gan ymgeiswyr sydd â lefel uchel o sgiliau a phrofiad personol mewn unrhyw faes gwasanaeth cyhoeddus neu fenter breifat. Ar hyn o bryd, mae gennym ddiddordeb arbennig mewn ymgeiswyr sydd â phrofiad mewn seilwaith digidol a TG; Rheoli/Adfywio Prosiectau Ystadau a Chyfalaf; ac Adnoddau Dynol.

Rydym yn awyddus i sicrhau cydbwysedd ar Gyngor y Brifysgol rhwng y rhai sy'n byw yng Nghymru a'r rhai sydd ymhellach i ffwrdd, ac yn croesawu ceisiadau gan bawb.

Rydym hefyd yn chwilio am aelod allanol newydd ar gyfer ein Pwyllgor Archwilio a Rheoli Risgiau. Byddwch yn gyfrifol am oruchwylio systemau ariannol a systemau rheoli mewnol eraill y Brifysgol, risgiau strategol, a pholisi rheoli risgiau. Byddwch yn cynghori'r Cyngor p'un a yw systemau a gweithdrefnau'r Brifysgol yn hyrwyddo arbedion, effeithlonrwydd ac effeithiolrwydd, diogelu asedau'r Brifysgol yn ogystal ag atal a chanfod twyll neu afreoleidd-dra arall. Bydd gennych gymhwyster cyfrifeg a phrofiad perthnasol mewn archwiliadau a rheoli risgiau yn ogystal â’r gallu diamheuol i graffu’n feirniadol ar strategaethau, cynlluniau ariannol a chynlluniau eraill, risgiau, sicrwydd a goruchwylio perfformiad.

Mae dealltwriaeth o'r materion sy'n wynebu addysg uwch a diddordeb yng Nghymru a'r cyd-destun Cymreig y mae penderfyniadau'n cael eu gwneud ynddo, yn hanfodol ar gyfer y rolau hyn.

9am, dydd Llun, 20 Mehefin 2022 yw’r dyddiad cau.
