In recent years, Hackney schools have become some of the best state schools in the country.

Our vision is to improve the life chances of every child and learner and make Hackney the most forward looking education system in the UK.

The Hackney Schools Group Board (HSGB) is a new advisory board designed to engage all Hackney schools in system improvement and be the practical manifestation of school system leadership. Conceived as a ‘think tank’, the Board will steer local improvement in Hackney through enquiry and research, using its unique role and position in relation to the council and the school network to promote participation.

The Independent Chair will be committed to using their experience, energy and knowledge to support the leadership of an exceptional local education system. This will require either experience or an interest in education and schools, experience of leading bodies made up of diverse stakeholders, an ability to act independently and a commitment to comprehensive, inclusive education.

The Independent Chair will be appointed by Hackney Council for an initial three-year term and the appointee should be prepared to dedicate approximately two working days per month to Hackney Schools Group Board matters.

The Independent Chair will work closely with the Council’s Director of Education who is also Head of Hackney Learning Trust, the Education Service for the London Borough of Hackney.

We are an equal opportunities employer and we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their gender, race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or age.
