The Department for International Trade (DIT) helps UK businesses to export, secures inward and outward investment, negotiates market access and trade agreements and champions free trade. DIT makes a real difference to UK companies pursuing deals, from deal origination and UK Export Finance support to tackling market access barriers.

The work of the department has never been more crucial both in terms of leading the UK’s strategy as an independent trading nation and its recovery on the international scene in a post Covid-19 world. Our Export Strategy sets out how government supports businesses of all sizes to make the most of the opportunities presented by markets around the world.

The UK views the Asia Pacific region as vital to future trade and have entered into negotiations with the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership allowing it access an area with 500m people.

The significance of the region is underlined by the first post Brexit trading deal being signed with Japan in 2020. As the third largest economy in the world the free trade agreement marked a key milestone in the UK’s move to being a fully independent trading country.

There have been subsequent specific trade deals signed with other major nations in the region including the recently announced deal with Singapore - UK-Singapore Digital Economy Agreement (DEA) – a unique partnership which relaxes regulations and allows the UK to grow its £16bn trading footprint.

This role will require working with the DIT, local Heads of Mission to deliver the outcome of the Spending Review where it impacts the region. You will focus on delivering an ambitious trade policy which enhances a targeted investment strategy and ensuring Free Trade Agreements are fully capitalised. The candidate will oversee regional initiatives including the Digital Trade Network for which you are the SRO and the new APAC Export Support Service. Significantly, you will maintain and further support relationships with a spectrum of stakeholders from ministers, and senior business people through to Trade Envoys and the British Chambers.

As a motivated a talented professional interested in playing a pivotal role in supporting UK businesses in this large geographic area you will have experience in leading complex organisations with large budgets and have the ability to empower others to achieve organisational goals. Strong commercial acumen and judgement will be integral to being successful in this role.
