Babcock International have partnered with Veredus to support their exciting PMO transformation agenda across its Devonport Royal Dockyard Ltd (DRDL) operations.

Babcock is a leading provider of critical, complex engineering services which support national defence, emergency services and civil nuclear sectors. Devonport (Plymouth) is the unique maintenance base of the UK’s submarine fleet. Several new engineering challenges are ahead as Babcock prepares for the next 30 years of deep maintenance programmes.

To support the increasing project workload Devonport PMO & Controls team are looking for several experienced project professionals who will act as role models and leaders for the wider PMO and Controls team to take responsibility and ownership of their domains.

Primary Purpose

DRDL is entering a period of major investment with several high-profile projects pending and many more being considered. To support the successful delivery of UK submarine fleet deep maintenance programmes, DRDL require an experienced Head of Performance to join their Devonport team.

The Head of Performance will lead the implementation of integrated project controls and drive the delivery of predictable projects performance across the Submarine Portfolio at DRDL. The Head of Performance will operate at all levels within the Submarines business.

Accountabilities

  • Deliver predictable time and cost outcomes through the consistent implementation of integrated project controls core process throughout the Submarine business

  • Create and reinforce a culture of integrated project teams throughout the Submarine business. Integrate the project disciplines in order to efficiently deliver project objectives and benefits

  • Champion a culture of delivery centred on People; utilising reliable and robust project information and data to understand, assess and influence successful project outcomes.

  • Establish and maintain the Performance Measurement Baseline position for the Submarines portfolio and implement a culture of control and internal governance throughout each project lifecycle.

  • Create high performing project teams. Support career development, increase PMPC competency and empower the Babcock workforce to deliver in line with the Project Management Delivery Framework.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements

  • Ideally Bachelor's degree in engineering / project / construction management or a related field

Desirable:

  • APM Chartered Professional (ChPP) – attained or willing to attain with support

Experience:

  • Successful track record of Management in a senior leadership role within a complex regulated and/or safety-critical environment

  • Extensive recent and relevant experience in a similar major project delivery environment / business

  • Full project lifecycle experience from bid phase through to close out.

  • Have expert knowledge of Project Controls and Planning tool sets and the integration of these.

  • Awareness of various contracting methodologies (e.g. FIDIC/NEC3/JCT etc…)
