As one of the original industrial powerhouses, Scotland has long been a nation of thinkers and innovators, our inventions and ideas embraced across the globe. Today, Scotland’s reputation is growing as a place to do business – not just because of the skills, talent and resources at our disposal – but because of who and what we are: innovative, progressive, welcoming and dynamic.

However, the economic landscape is evolving and as we face into unprecedented change, the time is right for a new approach to growing Scotland’s economy.

That’s why Scottish Enterprise is transforming. We’ve launched a new strategic framework, Building Scotland’s Future Today, which sets out a vision of an economically vibrant Scotland that is making a positive impact on the world.

We are now looking to recruit an Executive Director of Inward Investment and Trade to take forward this mission. Working closely with our partners across the public and private sectors, you will play a key ambassadorial role, representing Scotland on a world stage and opening doors to new markets and opportunities. You will lead and inspire a globally distributed workforce, in Scotland and in market, to ensure that we create more, better jobs that nurture shared wealth and collective wellbeing across Scotland.

This is a highly visible, global role and we are therefore looking for an outstanding international leader with a track record of success at a senior level. You will bring significant experience of leading international business development and operational change in large, complex and globally distributed organisations. You will have sound knowledge of international export markets and/or inward investment and an understanding of economic development policy. With strong political nous and sound professional judgement, you will have a proven ability to navigate complex environments and command confidence of a wide range of stakeholders at the highest levels of government and industry. You will ideally have experience in at least one of Scotland’s key industry sectors including food and drink, financial and professional services, energy and emerging technologies.

This is a high profile, challenging and rewarding role for a high caliber individual who is passionate about Scotland to lead on a positive agenda vital to the Scotland’s future economic prosperity.

We are determined to ensure that Scottish Enterprise is representative of modern Scotland and welcome and will support applications from the widest range of people of different backgrounds, cultures and experiences.
