North Highland College UHI is one of thirteen academic partners and research centres that make up the University of the Highlands and Islands. This unique partnership allows us to deliver further and higher education programmes at our Thurso, Halkirk, Dornoch and Alness campuses.

We are looking to appoint an experienced, high performing engineering professional who will lead us into the next stage of our strategic development. You will work closely with stakeholders from the Engineering, Energy and Technology sectors to meet their needs. You will contribute to the strategic development of key curriculum areas supporting this important sector and contributing effectively to the strategic aims of the University. The post is located at our prestigious Engineering, Technology and Energy Centre (ETEC) within our Thurso campus.

As the Director of ETEC at North Highland College UHI, you will be expected to lead our engineering section into the next phase of our strategic development. You will work closely with a variety of stakeholders from the Engineering and Energy sectors to meet their needs. You will contribute to the ongoing development of curriculum within North Highland College UHI along with the strategic aims of the University.

You will be based within ETEC (Energy, Technology and Energy Centre) at our Thurso Campus. ETEC provides approximately 3,600 square metres of purpose-built engineering training facilities, including Mechanical, Electrical, Rig, Welding and Fabrication workshop areas. The centre also provides dedicated classroom teaching space fully equipped with video conferencing and multimedia teaching aids.

You must possess a relevant Honours Degree and/or have a relevant professional qualification. You may be working in a University or College or you may currently be operating in one of the relevant external sectors – we would like to hear from you. You will have significant, successful experience of strategic leadership within your sector. Teaching experience at a FE/HE Institution would be advantageous but is not essential. You must be able to demonstrate highly developed leadership and communications skills.

The salary for this post reflects its strategic importance to the College. Other benefits include;

  • A relocation package, where appropriate
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • 45 days holidays per year
  • An opportunity to live and work in a spectacular rural environment
  • A chance to be a part of an exciting development period for Scotland’s youngest University
