With a history dating back to 1888, Abertay University and its predecessor institutions have always had a key focus on widening access to education and preparing students for the world of work. Located in the heart of the vibrant city of Dundee, Scotland, the University has around 4500 students, including many joining us from elsewhere in Europe and further afield. Abertay is a modern, pioneering, and ambitious university, internationally renowned for expertise in computer games teaching and research.
The Director of Finance, Infrastructure and Corporate Services role is a newly created position, central to Abertay’s ambitious plans to continue improving its academic offering to students, to strengthen its performance in research and innovation and to transform its support services. This is an exciting time to be joining the University in a role that can truly influence our future, coming as we launch a new Strategic Plan that will guide our development as an institution over the next five years. With a wide focus, including a new digital strategy and building on our track record of success in widening access to higher education, the delivery of this new plan will be a major focus of the successful candidate as they contribute to our high-performing senior management team.
Reporting to the Principal and Vice-Chancellor, you will act as the University’s chief financial officer and lead the Finance, Infrastructure and Corporate Services function as a key partner with all parts of the University to enable the delivery of our strategic objectives while ensuring the highest standards and performance.
We are therefore seeking an outstanding individual with a successful track record of senior leadership in a complex and changing environment. A qualified accountant, you will have significant experience of strategic financial management, of supporting transformational change, and of leading, motivating and empowering multi-disciplinary teams across different professional specialisms. You will have exceptional engagement, interpersonal and relationship management skills to motivate and influence staff and stakeholders at all levels. An understanding of higher education finances, and of research funding in a University context, would be helpful but is not essential.
This is an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of Abertay University’s future and its commitment to making a significant economic and social contribution to Dundee, Scotland, the UK and internationally.
