This is a unique opportunity to shape the future and prosperity of the Tees Valley region to become an engine for growth and innovation in clean energy and sustainability and placing it at the heart of the UK's green industrial revolution.

The Net Zero Industry Innovation Centre (NZIIC) is an innovative new £13.5m facility and key component of Tees Valley Combined Authority's regional innovation strategy, which will position Teesside firmly at the heart of the UK's green industrial revolution. Spearheaded by Teesside University, NZIIC will play a key role in the delivery of Net Zero ambitions for the region and the UK, as the Tees Valley gears up for major investment as part of the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.

The NZIIC fits perfectly with the knowledge and skills we have at the University and allows us to align our expertise to meet the demands of the government’s industrial and climate change strategies. Through collaborative R&D with industry, NZIIC will support the transition to net zero, delivering clear research impact through enhanced productivity and environmental and business sustainability, and supporting inward investment. It will also create a unique opportunity to grow our capabilities across areas including sustainability, clean energy and the circular economy – all of which are of increasing political and social importance.

We are now seeking an outstanding individual to lead the establishment and development of NZIIC as a centre of excellence in net zero technologies, representing the centre nationally and regionally. You will work with industry and key stakeholders to ensure that provision is driven by need and demand and based on strong academic and industry collaboration. You will develop a five-year delivery plan which addresses the current and future needs of industry, aligns with cross-University expertise and external stakeholder requirements, and delivers sustainable income streams in line with University’s targets.

You will already have significant senior level experience in the clean energy sector, with an excellent network and a proven track record in delivering critical targets in a complex environment. You will have an ability to build and maintain a wide range of relationships at senior levels across related industrial sectors and academia, and an excellent understanding of both developments and growth needs of the net zero agenda. In addition, you will have a clear understanding of relevant government strategy with evidence of high-level engagement with national and regional bodies, experience of developing funding bids and leading funded projects, as well as a strong commitment to and experience of delivering excellent customer service.

If you believe you have the experience, insight and perspective we are looking for, we very much look forward to hearing from you. To apply for this post, you will need to submit the following documentation:
