Time commitment: Variable (12 – 20 days per annum)
The University is seeking expressions of interest from suitably experienced individuals who wish to serve as lay members on the University’s governing body, the University Court, from the beginning of the coming academic year (1 August 2021).
The University of Strathclyde is one of the most dynamic and ambitious higher education institutions in the UK. Building on our Enlightenment roots as a “place of useful learning”, we are a socially progressive institution, recognised for engagement with business and industry, world-class teaching and research and deep commitment to innovation and enterprise. With a portfolio spanning engineering, science, business, humanities and social sciences, Strathclyde is differentiating itself as a leading international technological university, filling a significant gap in the UK’s HE sector by developing technology-driven solutions to societal problems, and informing public policy development.
The University Court plays a key role in shaping strategy and overseeing the effective management of the institution. The majority of its members are drawn from outside the University. Committed Court Members are critical to our success, and we are inviting expressions of interest from outstanding individuals who believe they can contribute to our success, and to the success of a sector that is central to Scotland’s economic, social and educational development.
You will have senior and/or board level experience in the private, public or third sectors that is commensurate with this important role in the governance of a large, complex and highly ambitious institution with global reach. With a proven ability to provide a constructive challenge, you will be an effective and persuasive communicator with strong analytical skills and sound judgement and an ability to make a significant strategic contribution to board discussions. Skills or expertise in one or more of the following areas would also be desirable: Tax, Actuarial, Pensions, Fundraising, Philanthropy and Development, Procurement, Legal, Remuneration, Financial and Equity Investment, Strategic Human Resources and Information Technology.
The University of Strathclyde welcomes applications from all sectors of the community, particularly from applicants that would further enhance the diversity of the Court membership.
Please note that we cannot accept applications from current staff or students of the University.
