In addition to providing a comprehensive range of acute hospital, older persons’ mental health services and community services for approximately 200,000 people living in and around Gateshead, the Trust also provides Gynae-oncology and Screening Services across the North of England and has an expanding base of Pathology and commercial estates/facilities services. Annual turnover is over £250 million and our workforce of around 4,000 staff deliver care in community settings as well as from our state-of-the-art care facilities. We are proud to be rated as ‘good’ with ‘outstanding’ care by the Care Quality Commission.

However we are not a traditional ‘DGH’….we are a high performing, diverse organisation that makes a substantial impact through our influence across the region. Therefore due to the planned retirement of our current Acting Chief Executive, and looking to future opportunities for the Trust, we seek to appoint an outstanding individual able to offer strong, visible leadership alongside resilience and significant executive board experience gained as an inclusive leader at Chief Executive or Executive Director level in a similar, complex organisation or system. You will need to share our embedded passion for delivering excellent care to all our patients.

As our health and care economy undergoes changes, your impact as a system leader will be clear and effective and, through your leadership, we can work even more closely with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders such as our workforce, commissioners, local health and care partners and regulators. Together, we can build and future-proof sustainable services. You will therefore need to show a strong commitment to engaging with those stakeholders from day one.
