Job description Date posted: 18/02/2019

Established in 1971, Wargrave House School is a non-maintained special school for students diagnosed with an autistic spectrum disorder. The school’s ethos of students becoming one of the ‘Wargrave Family’ where they enjoy a multidisciplinary and holistic approach towards their education, development and care has provided students with tailored individual care and education, enabling them to maximise their potential. With a flourishing reputation, in 2004 the school was officially granted status as a registered charity and in 2012, the Trustees decided to expand the School’s learning provision to establish Lakeside Early Adulthood Provision (LEAP) Specialist College.

Today, the School and College employ more than a hundred dedicated and specialist staff who provide an extensive range of learning, therapeutic, support, sporting, outdoor education, recreational activities and residential services for more than 60 pupils.

With a refreshed and ambitious Board, the Trustees seek to appoint an inspiring and dedicated leader able to capitalise on the sound platform the School & College enjoys, leading it on to the next phase of its development. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, you will take immediate accountability for:

  •  Developing and delivering the School and College’s 5 year strategic development plan
    • Working with your senior leadership team, operationalise effective plans that deliver increased pupil and student numbers, whilst maintaining clear focus on quality
    • Enhance and develop relationships with a broader range of Commissioners and Regulators
    • Determine and implement plans that enhance the Wargrave House market position and alternative revenue sources
    • Advising the Board of Trustees on the impact and opportunities created by changes in Government/ Regulatory policy

This is an enviable and outstanding strategic leadership opportunity for an aspirant or experienced organisational leader. Whilst practical knowledge of the education/special needs education sector would be advantageous, it is not essential. You will need to demonstrate the proven ability to lead a service related organisation that has operated within a complex stakeholder and regulatory environment. This could be within the public, private or not for profit sectors. Experience has developed your ability to lead and deliver on demanding goals through people. Above all, you will demonstrate a deep connection with the aims, vision and values of the organisation and be driven to deliver the very best education, care and support for our students.
