The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is at the forefront of the UK Government’s vision to promote safe, productive, sustainable and biologically diverse oceans and seas. Through our regulatory plan we support the Government’s ambitious 25-year Environment Plan to protect our maritime natural resources for current and future generations. As we leave the EU and with it the Common Fisheries Policy, the MMO will also become the principle regulator of some of the most complex and diverse seas in the world.

The new Chief Executive will have responsibility for day-to-day leadership of a 400-strong organisation, spread across the UK with a budget in the region of £30million. You will be accountable to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and will focus on ensuring the MMO is fully positioned to deliver on the Government’s 25-year Environment Plan and transforming ways of working to support changes in maritime regulation as the UK leaves the Common Fisheries Policy.

This is a challenging position for a senior leader with a proven track record of innovation and leadership within an organisation going through a period of change. We are seeking to appoint an individual with a proven track record of setting the strategic direction for a complex organisation, someone who is equally credible and engaging at Board or Ministerial level as they are with front-line staff. Ideally, you will possess both strong political and business acumen as well as the ability to balance a wide range of agendas from the regulation of fishing fleet sizes through to maritime conservation projects and disaster planning.

If you are motivated to take a lead role in the UK’s programme to protect our maritime resources at this exciting time in our growth then please visit quoting reference 931253 to see the full role description and information pack.
