Following the decision by the current Accountable Officer to retire in March 2019, Shropshire CCG seeks to appoint an inspiring, visionary Accountable Officer (AO) able to lead the CCG through its journey of evolution, providing clear strategic leadership to ensure that together with our system partners, we play a critical role in shaping the future of our local health economy.

Serving a population of around 306,100 people, we commission services across the county of Shropshire, excluding Telford and Wrekin. With 41 GP practices organised in three localities, we work in partnership with our patients, partners and providers to ensure that quality and patient experience are firmly at the centre of everything we do.

The CCG is at a significant point in its development, as is the local health system in which it operates. There is a challenging agenda on which good progress is being made and a real opportunity to work with an enthusiastic Governing Body, whose members are passionate about improving the health of their local population.

Shropshire has an emerging Sustainability and Transformation Partnership, headed by a recently appointed new Chair, in which the CCG will play a vital role. This emerging agenda will be key in setting out the future blueprint for the local healthcare system, future commissioning arrangements and mechanisms for service provision. This post is advertised as a 1 year fixed term position to enable the necessary focus on system change and development to be effected.

Our clinical leaders and experienced management team have achieved a great deal together to improve care locally but there is much more to achieve. With this is mind, Shropshire CCG is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Accountable Officer to lead the team in accomplishing even more.

A clear vision for services based on our population needs that we can communicate well is critical. It means thinking about outcomes and not inputs, always keeping our public at the centre of our plans.

A key part of our role is building relationships and responsive services that care for our patients. We have excellent public and patient engagement in what we do.

As Accountable Officer, you will:

  • Work with the Governing Body and partner organisations to develop and implement a strategy in line with the Five Year Forward View plan and emerging STP priorities and plans.
  • Enhance and develop effective long term partnerships with commissioners, local authorities, the voluntary sector, key providers, academic and research institutions, to ensure that the needs of local people are met.
  • Ensure that the culture of the organisation supports innovation and learning, that staff are inspired and motivated, and that feedback from patients and the public is sought and acted upon.
  • Work with providers to ensure that services are transformed and care is provided in line with best practice and best value. You will need to demonstrate experienced senior leadership and that you can quickly establish credibility amongst the CCG and partnership organisations across Shropshire.

 You will be able to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and offer evidence of sector-leading operational grip as well as finely honed political skills and commercial acumen. You will need to be able to navigate and ensure a strong CCG voice in local system change. Developing and leading an executive team who are motivated to strive for excellence will be important to you as will be ensuring that the highest standards of practice and probity are upheld in all the CCG’s work.
