Case Study- Office for Nuclear Regulation

07/06/16
In January 2016 the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) was seeking to appoint a preferred supplier to provide psychometric solutions over a one year period for a number of their upcoming senior and executive roles. Veredus Assessment & Development practice was successfully appointed following a competitive tender process and has since the start of the contract supported the organisation in two high profile assessment campaigns for Chief Nuclear Inspector and Deputy Chief Nuclear Inspector roles.

The ONR is responsible for the regulation of nuclear safety and security across the UK. It has a mission to “provide efficient and effective regulation on the nuclear industry, holding it to account on behalf of the public”. ONR independently regulates nuclear safety and security at 37 nuclear licensed sites in the UK. The organisation is going through a significant period of organisational change with a strong focus on creating a culture of promoting highest standards and continuous improvement. As a result of this rapid change, ONR are significantly hiring to ensure the best candidates are bought on-board to drive the change process forward and achieve high quality standards to maintain the safety of the public.

Veredus A&D practice provided the ONR with a bespoke one-to-one executive profiling process tailored to tap into specific leadership qualities of relevance for the two senior roles. This involved shortlisted candidates completing a mixture of psychometric and work style measures such as Wave Professional Style, Hogan Development Survey and Firo-B together with Verbal and Numerical Analysis tests online prior to an in-depth interview and validation session with one of our senior Occupational Psychologists. These sessions provided the psychologist with the opportunity to probe candidates on specific behavioural and leadership issues of relevance to the role and the organisation. During the same sessions candidates’ profiles and measures were also discussed in-depth to ensure that any areas of interest or concern were probed further.

The output from this process was fully comprehensive profiling reports consisting of executive summaries and bullet points providing an overview of each candidate’s key strengths and areas for further probing. These were then used by the interview panel as part of the final interview stage. Veredus A&D practice received very positive feedback from the client in terms of adding real value to the overall appointment process and we continue to develop our partnership as their preferred supplier of executive psychometric profiling moving forward.
