Our Transport Practice

PRACTICE HEADING: Transport

The UK’s transport infrastructure is going through transformation, with major schemes in many of our cities.

It is a vibrant and exciting business, and Veredus is helping to build capacity and capability across the system, recruiting to a wide range of different functions.

The industry operates at the cusp between public and private sectors, and is therefore at the leading edge of culture change, modernisation and public accountability.

Because we operate in both sectors too, we can provide a bridge between these different worlds - and leverage public sector knowledge to add value for private sector clients.

For example, transport markets are highly regulated, and can be subject to a phenomenal degree of scrutiny. We have recruited the heads of national regulatory bodies and watchdogs.

As well as director roles in operations, engineering and safety, we have undertaken recent assignments in commercial management for one operator, and equality & inclusion for another.

Perhaps because of our strong reputation in government and supporting public appointments, we have also been asked to undertake search and selection for non-executive roles, for example we recently recruited the Chairman of a harbour authority.

The industry operates at the cusp between public and private sectors, and is therefore at the leading edge of culture change, modernisation and public accountability.

The investment in transport systems and the impact these have on development make the industry a major driver for regeneration and regional economies. So we think it’s important to see the bigger picture.

For example, we recently worked with a regional agency responsible for overseeing £3Bn investment into transport infrastructure. Leadership roles in organisations like this are extremely high-profile, and demand exceptional people.

The recruitment market is truly global, and our international search capability means that we can deliver. We begin every assignment with original research, and our process is among the most rigorous in the business.

In this case, we recruited the Information Systems Director from a multinational IT firm and the Metrolink Director from a major public transport role in Australia.

Similarly, when we recruited the Chief Executive the UK’s fastest-growing regional airport, we produced a shortlist with candidates from the UK, Europe and the Middle East.

We see ourselves as trusted advisers to our clients, and offer a range of support in addition to search, for example interim management, strategic workforce development and business psychology.
