The Challenge
Our client was a large Government Executive Agency - one of several moving toward Trading Fund status, where the focus will be on self-funding and commerciality.
A new Chief Executive, recruited from the banking sector, was driving an ambitious change programme, and had brought in new directors from both public and private sector backgrounds to prepare for this more business-like approach.
We were commissioned to support the team by providing interim managers with the right skills to plug some identified gaps.
Our Solution
Key interims we provided included:
- A Business Development Director with private sector experience, to operate at board level and refocus the existing commercial department - breaking down organisational ‘silos’ and transforming the approach to account management
- A Commercial Contract Manager to establish a new division, and set up a framework for contracts and Service Level Agreements. (The interim we placed has first-class private sector service management credentials, and a great deal of experience managing public sector accounts - so was ideally placed to help create the new culture, too.)
- A senior manager with first class commercial experience to systematically assess and drive improvements in the client’s project management capability.
The Result
Our interims brought with them a real energy and enthusiasm for change, enormous experience from both public and private sectors, and strong stakeholder engagement skills.
At the time of writing, our client is on target to achieve its Trading Fund status.
