The Challenge
The Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive is an organisation with a mission.
It is responsible for the Manchester Metrolink, which pioneered a completely new concept in mass transit within the UK, and has been the blueprint for similar systems in other cities.
Research now suggests that it has replaced up to 3.5 million car journeys.
This achievement was built on a unique partnership of local organisations and visionary political leadership. Metrolink is truly rooted in its region, and the local community.
So when we were brought in to support the search for a new Director, we needed to find someone with world class transport credentials – and exceptional personal qualities.
Our Solution
We helped to develop a candidate profile, which defined the different aspects of the role and the person to fill it.
Our international search capacity enabled us to pull together a shortlist of candidates from around the world.
The Result
Philip Purdy was appointed from a senior position running the tram system in Melbourne.
With 29 years experience of experience in public transport and a track record of collaborative working on strategic development projects, he was an ideal fit for the Metrolink role.
